Onopordum acanthium

Type: Biennial

Flowers: In second year pink thistle like flowers.

Foliage: Large silver grey, fury leaves with sharp spiny edges. In second year produces a number of huge spiny stems on top of which flowers appear.

Hardiness: Fully Hardy

Height 3m. Spread 1m

Conditions: Well drained, fertile soil in full sun. May self seed.

Attractive to butterflies and a good sorce of seeds for the birds in winter.
